Chronology:

1999: A band in Ankara, consisting of Hazar Mutgan, Işık Sarıhan, Özüm İtez, İnanç Soylu and Alper Memioğlu picks up the name Hayvanlar Alemi when they are slowly starting to improvise their own music.

2000: Alper Memioğlu moves to Istanbul, leaving the band. Gökçe Başar joins the band.
Everything played at home and in the studio starts to get recorded and single-copy
casettes start to appear

2001: Hayvanlar Alemi start to play their very first shows in the school.

2002: İnanç Soylu moves to Antalya, leaving the band.

2003: September: The band, mostly as a sub-unit consisting of Işık Sarıhan and Özüm İtez,
start to play as street musicians.

November: Weekly shows at Tenedos Cafe start and last for two and a half shows. Most of the recording from the second show is to be used for the band’s first demo.

2004: January: Band’s first demo ‘Bir’ appears, with completely improvised music.
Two members start to show up weekly and play acoustic in Karakedi Kültür Evi, after   a month the place gets closed.  

February: The band, again mostly as a unit of two or three, start weekly acoustic performances and dj sets in Orta Dünya Cafe. It lasts for a few months.

2005: March: The first all-electric and full-band concert after one and a half years happen in   
Dummy Bar.

April: The first of Nefes Bar gigs, which is to continue irregularly, happen. In these concerts, the band starts to play structured pieces and compositions along with free ones for the first time. Elements such as interaction with the audience and the surroundings, story-telling and decoration start to exist in the shows.

June: Band’s second demo ‘Bekçi’ appears.

September: First two demos are collected into one cd with little alterations.

2006: February: After a concert given in IF Bar, the band gets the chance to release an album.

April: The recording of the album starts in MK2 studios. After a few days, the
recording is postponed due to technical problems.

June: A few days before the album’s scheduled release, a concert is given in Nefes Bar
which causes a chain of problems concerning the release, frequently postponing it.  

July: Hayvanlar Alemi play their first show in Istanbul, and probably the last show with their original four-piece line up, in Papillion.

August: Hazar Mutgan and Gökçe Başar go abroad for master courses.

September: Even before the first album’s release, two members left in Ankara, Işık Sarıhan and Özüm İtez start preparing for their second album.

December: Hayvanlar Alemi’s debut album ‘Gaga’ is released by MK2 Productions.
